Don't cry for me Argentina

We were both quite sad to leave Argentina, it is a beautiful country with lovely people, lots of culture and a strong sense of identity.  A few of our observations below... That didn't quite fit in with the other posts...

The food is for the most part incredible, we have been lucky enough to eat some of the most unbelievable steaks, washed down with some really lovely Malbec.  All of this finished off with Dulce de Leche in/on cakes, toast, crepes and ice cream!

An Asador, a traditional way of cooking meat

The dogs... In every town we went to there were packs of wild dogs running around, playing chicken on the roads and looking out for food.  In Buenos Aires they love their dogs, but to the other end of the spectrum - dog walkers responsible for 10-15 dogs at a time can be seen wandering around the parks in BA, all of them on leads - they are so well behaved, I can just imagine the carnage if Oscar was involved!

One of many professional dog walkers

The scenery - from the wilds of Patagonia around Chalten and Calafate with their snow capped mountains and glacier lakes to the still waters of the Beagle Channel in Ushuaia, ringed by its own section of the Andes, it is a jaw droppingly beautiful country, and one that we would both like to explore more of in the future (there is am entire wine region yet to be visited after all!).

The people - we encountered a few that seemed to take an instant dislike to us once they heard we were English, but most people we met were absolutely lovely.  Everyone we met was so helpful and interesting, and they obviously love their country.  Difficult to ignore the obvious (and justified?) resentment over the Falklands, particularly in Ushuaia where there is a monumental park dedicated to the Malvinas Islands, and streets named for parts of the conflict.

They are proud of the Argentinian pope!

Things are a little different to at home in the UK, I can't see the scaffolding below passing any sort of regulations...

All in all we have had the most fantastic 3 weeks dipping in and out of Argentina.  We have a packed itinerary for the next 6 weeks, but even knowing where we are going, the impact of beautiful Argentina is going to take some beating.
